“The best way to celebrate the holidays is with some delicious food”Rachel Hollis As we sit and write this newsletter, sunlight is streaming in through the window and, despite the light wind whipping up the leaves outside, it feels like a summers day in mid-July. It’s a bit of a challenge, therefore, to believe it is mid-October! What many call ‘Spooky Season’ is now upon us and, as a restaurant, our thoughts move to the darker months; Christmas and New Year. What is even more present in our minds right now is the approach to our FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! For what has been quite a roller coaster for us - having been closed due a pandemic and fighting to keep going through Brexit and an energy and cost of living crisis - to be able to celebrate this landmark achievement means more to us than we can say. Therefore, we won’t say anything, but merely invite you to a very special anniversary dinner taking place on 2nd December, to not only celebrate this milestone, but to start off the festive period with something of a bang. This menu is a celebration of Copper & Ink over the last 5 years, so what better way to commemorate where we started and shine a light on where we are now by revisiting some of our old favourite dishes, but reimagining them in a way that is more fitting with not only where we are now, but where we hope to be in the future. This 12-course extravaganza will commence on the ground floor under our fabulously floral ceiling with welcome drinks - perhaps a celebratory glass of our favourite Henners Brut Rosé or an anniversary cocktail designed specifically for the night itself - along with a sublime selection of snacks. You will then be escorted down our copper coloured staircase to the lower ground floor, seated comfortably with a view of our open pass and treated to a further 11 courses. Courses will be paired with some wonderful wines, curated especially for this event. Should you want to enhance your celebration further, additional drinks can, of course, be purchased from the bar. This experience is incredibly limited with only 28 seats available, however, if you miss out on tickets, or this is a date you can’t make, please your register your interest by clicking the button below and completing the form. This event is priced at £250 per person and this includes your 12-courses, welcome drinks and wine pairings. We are so excited to celebrate with you, and we really hope you are as excited about this event as we are! *small print - there are only tables available on the lower ground floor for this event, so if you are unable to descend the stairs, this may not be an event that will work for you. Allergies & dietary requirements will need to be communicated at least 72 hours prior to the event. Payment is required in advance, cancellations with full refunds are permitted up to 72 hours prior, but any cancellations with less than 72 hours notice will not be eligible for a refund.* We are open every Wednesday-Saturday between now and Saturday 23rd December, at which point we will close for our annual Christmas Holiday, reopening on Wednesday 3rd January 2024. In a last little note from us, we know how hard a time it is for everyone with escalating mortgage costs etc., however the hospitality industry is really suffering, so we urge you to keep visiting your favourite independent pubs, restaurants, wine and cocktail bars and spending as much as you can to help them keep their lights on. See you in the dining room…
Tony, Becky & the team.

"Every success story is a tale of constant adaptation, revision and change"-Richard Branson With August over its halfway point and the change in the season from oppressive heat to some more cooling and welcome showers of rain, we wanted to share with you some of the changes that we have been and will be undertaking here at Copper & Ink. Most of you will have already seen our fantastically floral ceiling on the ground floor (either from the last blog, our newsletter, social media pages, or indeed, in person), and those keen-eyed amongst you will have noticed that we have also made some changes to the dining room on the lower ground floor. This room has been transformed from a light shade of grey to a dark inky charcoal. The artwork reprinted and stretched over huge canvases to add some real pops of colour, table lamps have been added to create a warm intimate glow and hints of copper adorn the stairwell and ceiling. A little behind the scenes of this transformation can be viewed below... As we hurtle towards the end of the month, we also speed towards our summer closure, so be sure to book now to avoid missing the August menu (you have 1 week left)! We will be closing our doors from 28th August until 13th September. We will reopen on 14th September with a few more changes... Some of the alterations you can expect are:
Since the latter part of July, Saturday nights have been taster only, and this will continue when we return, however, the taster menu will be increased from 5 courses to 7 courses and our a la carte and set lunch/pre-theatre menus will be replaced with a delicious prix fixe menu. We want to give you, our guests, the best experience possible, so making these tweaks means we can spend more time with you during service and the chefs can concentrate flavours further and bring you more spectacular dishes than ever. We are even working on some additional drinks pairings to go alongside our taster menus - the wine pairing as we have always done, a soft drink pairing, and a sommelier's choice pairing, giving you much more variety and interest. We will still be the same friendly team, with an inclusive menu that can accommodate dietary requirements (pescatarian, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, vegan, nut free), we are just tightening the screws and offering you more of an experience than just dinner. Don't forget the taster menu is always available, and we wholeheartedly recommend you opt for this when you come in; not only is this the chef's showing off, it also means you don't have to make any decisions. Just let us feed you! The adjustments to the tables may mean you have to book a little further in advance that you have done in more recent months, and it will mean that we will be less able to accommodate seating requests. Of course, mobility issues will be taken into account, but with less tables available we will have a little less flexibility. You will still be able to book for 1 to 8 people, but any party over 6 will be seated on our chef's table on the lower ground floor - an excellent reason to come as a larger party! We truly believe that every single seat is the best seat in the house, so wherever you are in the restaurant, we are positive you will have a wonderful dining experience. Our wonderfully talented chefs are in the process of putting together the menu for our return, but you can expect to see scallops, lamb, cauliflower and beetroot featuring heavily in September and October. The new menus will be available to view on our website before we reopen; keep your eyes peeled for their magical appearance online in due course. In the meantime, we will be updating our social media so do keep in touch with us there. If you have any questions or queries, or want any further information pertaining to what you have just read, please don't hesitate to get in touch by emailing us - info@copperandink.com
As always, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, glasses and saucepans for the continued support you have shown us over the last nearly 4 years, and we look forward to welcoming you to the dining room for the foreseeable future. If you have been to Copper & Ink recently, the eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed there are some changes afoot. The staff favourite has to be the brand new air-con in our ground floor dining room, keeping us all cool as the temperature outside has been soaring. Our screens - the relics of Covid regulations - have been replaced with beautiful planted dividers, and we are very much enjoying the start our new Blackheath oasis. When not wielding saucepans and cocktails shakers, Tony & Becky have been busy with their tools and those who have been in this week or follow us on social media will have seen that there has been a gigantic change to our ground floor dining room ceiling! We’ve created a little behind the scenes video of the before, during and after of its creation - watch below. More changes are coming, so stay tuned. We will be closing for our summer holidays on 28th August and re-opening on 14th September. Please note during this time our phone lines will not be manned and emails checked only periodically. In the meantime, we now only have 2 days left on our July menu so if you have not tried it yet get booking now. Don’t forget if you have booked for tomorrow night (Saturday), it’s Taster Menu only. We love saving you time on making decisions! If you have already had your fill for this month, be sure to get booked in for August.
Our chefs are currently putting the final touches to it and it’s definitely looking to be a great menu, packed with flavour and interest. Some of the ingredients being showcased in August are sweetcorn, beetroot, duck, beef and octopus. Keep an eye on our wesbiste over the course of the next few days and you’ll see it magically appear. "After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even ones own relatives" - Oscar Wilde June's menu is now in full swing, and for those of you who follow us on social media, you will have seen some of the incredible dishes our chefs have produced for this month's menu. After 3+ years of trading (ignoring that bit in the middle when COVID took over) we have come to believe that our 5-course monthly changing seasonal taster menu is the truly the jewel in our crown. In fact, we love our taste menu, and you, our guests, so much that from 2nd July Saturday nights will be come taster menu only nights. No more decision making for anyone! Go for the paired wines and our cocktail of the month too and all you need to do is, eat, drink and enjoy. We take care of the rest. If you're pescatarian or vegetarian, we've got you covered. We always have options for those of you who don't eat meat. Allergens are also covered. Gluten free? Dairy free? Nut free? Yep, we can cater for all of those dietary requirements too! (Though if you have any very specific or unusual allergies, do let us know as far in advance as possible to ensure that we can feed you!) If you have already made a booking for July, you should have heard from someone in the team already to discuss this, but if you're anything like us, you'll be as excited as we are with this slight change to programming. If you don't subscribe to our newsletter or didn't read the last blog post (shame on you!), you wouldn't be privy to the knowledge that we have re-introduced our pre-theatre menu, which means from 5pm-6:30pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, you can get 3 delicious courses of food for a mere £35, or just 2 for £28. A great way to get in your Copper & Ink fix when you're shorter on time or on a budget. It's also a really good way of filling in the gaps you've missed after coming in for the taster menu! The chefs are already working on the menu for July, so keep your eyes on our social media accounts, and subscribe to our mailing list for more news! See you in the dining room! Tony & Becky It’s been a while since we posted and for that we apologise. However, as always, the chefs have been working hard to create mouthwatering dishes for you and our May menu is no different. Featuring prawns, white asparagus, fresh peas, rhubarb, hibiscus and beef short rib (not all on the same plate), we think this month’s menu really packs a punch. We are also acutely aware of the current rise in costs, so we wanted to our bit to enable you to continue to eat out with friends and family whilst still watching the pennies. Therefore, we have re-introduced our Pre-Theatre /Early Bird menu. This gives you the option to have 2- or 3-courses for £28 or £35 respectively from 5pm to 6:30pm Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Take a look at the menu below: Starters Charred white asparagus, ponzu dressing, morels, black garlic mayo, coconut velouté, pistachio Prawns, farfalle, prawn bisque, fresh peas, basil oil Smoked pork belly, Jersey royals, caramelised onions, fennel salad, miso glaze Mains Harissa hasselback courgette, labneh, charred lettuce, courgette salad, dukka Salmon fillet, smoked haddock, cheddar mash, peas, herb crumb, fish jus Middle Eastern spiced chicken leg, butter bean purée, sweet & sour red onions, salsa verde Desserts Celeriac parfait, coffee caramel, chocolate sauce, hazelnut crumb Rhubarb, rose & hibiscus baked Alaska Affogato Cheese board - 14 We have also introduced a cocktail of the month, which this month is inspired by Ernest Hemingway and his love of daiquiris. Infused with lime, rum and hibiscus, the Ernest is not one to miss out on. And for those of you who don’t drink, The Lovecraft (named for fantasy writer H.P Lovecraft - a devout teetotaller) is full of all the same flavours but without the alcohol. There is just one week left of this menu, so we urge you to book in and try this menu before it's too late!
All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt. Whilst we are aware that not everyone celebrates Valentine’s Day in its traditional guise; after the last few years we’ve all had, a little bit of love is something we think should be celebrated. And for us, that’s a love and celebration of good food, good wine and excellent company. As V-Day falls on a Monday - a day which we do not open - we have decided that our Valentine’s Day will be Saturday 12th February. We’ve put together a stunning taster menu for the occasion, and wanted to share a little sneaky peek of that here. This is the first time we have introduced a premium wine pairing alongside the standard wine parings which will be a fantastic opportunity for you to try some brand new wines which will only be available for this menu! As always, we will be able to cater for pescatarians and vegetarians and any other allergies or dietary requirements (please let us know in your booking should there be something specific). To make the evening extra special for you all, we wanted to take the pressure off so you don’t even have to choose from the menu (we will only be offering the 5-course taster menu), and we will be giving you longer on the table to ensure you can enjoy the additional treat of oysters at the start and, should you have room, a cheese board! *you will need to select this promotion at time of booking to complete the reservation. We hope you are as excited as we are by this, and we look forward to celebrating with all of you.
