"After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even ones own relatives"

- Oscar Wilde

June's menu is now in full swing, and for those of you who follow us on social media, you will have seen some of the incredible dishes our chefs have produced for this month's menu.
BOOK NOW

After 3+ years of trading (ignoring that bit in the middle when COVID took over) we have come to believe that our 5-course monthly changing seasonal taster menu is the truly the jewel in our crown.  In fact, we love our taste menu, and you, our guests, so much that from 2nd July Saturday nights will be come taster menu only nights.  No more decision making for anyone!  Go for the paired wines and our cocktail of the month too and all you need to do is, eat, drink and enjoy.  We take care of the rest.

If you're pescatarian or vegetarian, we've got you covered.  We always have options for those of you who don't eat meat.  Allergens are also covered.  Gluten free?  Dairy free? Nut free?  Yep, we can cater for all of those dietary requirements too!  (Though if you have any very specific or unusual allergies, do let us know as far in advance as possible to ensure that we can feed you!)
Picture
If you have already made a booking for July, you should have heard from someone in the team already to discuss this, but if you're anything like us, you'll be as excited as we are with this slight change to programming.
BOOK NOW

If you don't subscribe to our newsletter or didn't read the last blog post (shame on you!), you wouldn't be privy to the knowledge that we have re-introduced our pre-theatre menu, which means from 5pm-6:30pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, you can get 3 delicious courses of food for a mere £35, or just 2 for £28.  A great way to get in your Copper & Ink fix when you're shorter on time or on a budget.  It's also a really good way of filling in the gaps you've missed after coming in for the taster menu!

The chefs are already working on the menu for July, so keep your eyes on our social media accounts, and subscribe to our mailing list for more news!

See you in the dining room!

Picture
It’s been a while since we posted and for that we apologise.

However, as always, the chefs have been working hard to create mouthwatering dishes for you and our May menu is no different. Featuring prawns, white asparagus, fresh peas, rhubarb, hibiscus and beef short rib (not all on the same plate), we think this month’s menu really packs a punch.

Picture
We are also acutely aware of the current rise in costs, so we wanted to our bit to enable you to continue to eat out with friends and family whilst still watching the pennies.

Therefore, we have re-introduced our Pre-Theatre /Early Bird menu. This gives you the option to have 2- or 3-courses for £28 or £35 respectively from 5pm to 6:30pm Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
BOOK HERE
Take a look at the menu below:
Starters
Charred white asparagus, ponzu dressing, morels, black garlic mayo, coconut velouté, pistachio
Prawns, farfalle, prawn bisque, fresh peas, basil oil
Smoked pork belly, Jersey royals, caramelised onions, fennel salad, miso glaze

Mains
Harissa hasselback courgette, labneh, charred lettuce, courgette salad, dukka
Salmon fillet, smoked haddock, cheddar mash, peas, herb crumb, fish jus
Middle Eastern spiced chicken leg, butter bean purée, sweet & sour red onions, salsa verde

Desserts
Celeriac parfait, coffee caramel, chocolate sauce, hazelnut crumb

We have also introduced a cocktail of the month, which this month is inspired by Ernest Hemingway and his love of daiquiris. Infused with lime, rum and hibiscus, the Ernest is not one to miss out on.
Picture
And for those of you who don’t drink, The Lovecraft (named for fantasy writer H.P Lovecraft - a devout teetotaller) is full of all the same flavours but without the alcohol.

There is just one week left of this menu, so we urge you to book in and try this menu before it's too late!

All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.

Charles M Schulz

Picture
Whilst we are aware that not everyone celebrates Valentine’s Day in its traditional guise; after the last few years we’ve all had, a little bit of love is something we think should be celebrated. And for us, that’s a love and celebration of good food, good wine and excellent company.

As V-Day falls on a Monday - a day which we do not open - we have decided that our Valentine’s Day will be Saturday 12th February.

We’ve put together a stunning taster menu for the occasion, and wanted to share a little sneaky peek of that here.
Picture
Book Now
This is the first time we have introduced a premium wine pairing alongside the standard wine parings which will be a fantastic opportunity for you to try some brand new wines which will only be available for this menu!
Picture
As always, we will be able to cater for pescatarians and vegetarians and any other allergies or dietary requirements (please let us know in your booking should there be something specific).

To make the evening extra special for you all, we wanted to take the pressure off so you don’t even have to choose from the menu (we will only be offering the 5-course taster menu), and we will be giving you longer on the table to ensure you can enjoy the additional treat of oysters at the start and, should you have room, a cheese board!
*you will need to select this promotion at time of booking to complete the reservation.

We hope you are as excited as we are by this, and we look forward to celebrating with all of you.

In the midst of winter, I found that there was, within me, an invincible summer
- Albert Camus

It has been a tough year and a harsh winter for many people, however, we have definitely found an invincible summer here at Copper & Ink through your love and support which has meant so much to us.
It is hard to put into words how we all feel as this year draws to a close; we are exhausted from the rollercoaster we have all been on, but we are incredibly proud of our team; the hard work they have put in to keep the home fires burning and so incredibly thankful for you, our guests.
Picture
A throwback to our first real Christmas at Copper & Ink

Now the slushy bit is out of the way, we just wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of our Christmas opening hours.
We will be closing at 10:30pm tonight (Christmas Eve - Friday December 24th) and will not be reopening until Wednesday 5th January.
During this time, our phone lines will not be manned, emails and enquiries will not be answered and the website will not be maintained (and for those who have been messaging to ask, there will be no takeaways or cook at home kits etc.), we won’t even be on social media! We, like you, are looking forward to a break and we will be switching off completely.

Picture
Without wishing to tempt fate, in the event that there are further restrictions imposed on us following the Festive Period, we will be in touch to advise how this will affect you and any of your 2022 bookings.

Don’t forget, bookings are open for 2022, so please do reserve your table for next year by clicking the button below…
Book Here
If you are still trying to organise gifts for loved ones, as a reminder, we do sell gift vouchers which are available to purchase from the restaurant (sadly, we can no longer post them out - that sleigh has flown) in the values of £50, £75 and £100.  But today is your last day!!

*small print - valid for a year from date of issue and cannot be exchanged for cash or credit*

For any of you who are booked in today, we very much look forward to seeing you, and for those we won’t see, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
Thank you again for all your support and we will see you in 2022.

All Things Seem Possible In May

- Edwin Teale Way
Welcome to May!

Things definitely seem like they are becoming more possible right now; bars, pubs & restaurants with outside space are reopening to guests, more people are being vaccinated, the sun is shining and the days of social distancing are (we hope) coming to an end.
It’s been really busy for us here; since opening bookings we have been inundated with reservations and requests for bookings and we are so excited to see so many of you booking your return trip to us. We are fully booked for the first 2 weeks back, so if you haven’t managed to get a reservation in yet, now is your chance to avoid disappointment!  You can do that by visiting our bookings page here.

We have been working hard to get the dining room ready to welcome you all back; the bar has been adorned with copper leaf, the walls have been repainted and everything seems to be getting its sparkle back. Slowly but surely, life is being breathed back into the building. All that is missing is you!
Picture
Despite many things seeming possible as we move into this new month and as restrictions begin to be lifted; we as a business will still have to adhere to social distancing measures and other restrictions when we re-open, so please do be aware of these measures and be respectful of them. Masks are still required when you are moving around the dining room, every guest will be required to check in at the door (QR codes will be available), and our tables are still socially distanced (meaning that we have less of them and sadly, that does mean that we have to turn tables more regularly - we understand that it’s not always the ideal scenario, however, in order for us to continue trading for the foreseeable future, this is something we have to do). We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Now the serious bit is out of the way, how about something to whet your appetite? The chefs have been working hard over lockdown to create some wonderful new dishes for the menu, and we are excited that the new menu is now available to view here.
Thank you all again for your continuing support, it means the world to us.

See you in the dining room soon…

Lockdown 3.0

25/1/2021

We can’t quite believe that we are nearly the full way through January 2021. 2020 was such a strange year for everyone, and this certainly wasn’t the start of 2021 any one of us expected or wanted.

We wanted to post firstly, just to say hi! We miss seeing you all and we are looking forward to being able to see you all again in the near future.

We also just wanted to let you know why we are not currently offering a takeaway service. A few of you have been in touch over the last few weeks to ask what our plans are for takeaway, and the honest truth is, right now, we don’t feel that it is safe for us to offer this service. Whilst it costs us a substantial amount of money to remain closed, we can’t put a price on the health and safety of our staff and our guests. With this new, highly transmissible strain of COVID in our midst, we feel it is unfair, firstly, to ask our staff to travel in on public transport, and secondly, to ask our guests to interact with us as this puts everyone and their families at risk.

We are keeping our eyes on the numbers and as soon as we feel that there is less of a risk to everyone, we will re-start our takeaway service.
In the meantime, if any of you want to show some support, we have a donation button on the homepage where you can safely donate what you might have otherwise spent with us if you were picking up a takeaway or popping in for dinner. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will assist in keeping us going during this really strange time.
If anyone has any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to email us or pop us a message via one of our social media platforms. Our telephone lines are not being manned right now, so please don’t try to call as you will just get our voicemail.

We are looking forward to a time where we can all be together again, but in the meantime, stay safe.

It’s Christmas! (nearly)

We are sure that you have been following the news as closely as us to find out firstly if it's going to be possible to go back to restaurants and secondly, to see if you can go back to them with people other than members of your own household.  Whilst we are thrilled that we will be allowed to reopen, this joy is tinged with a bittersweet note that we will be in tier 2 and therefore only allowed to enjoy meals out with those from our household.

We wanted to get in touch with you all to firstly thank you all for your continued and unwavering support during lockdown 2 and to let you know our plans for the rest of this year.  We can't quite believe we are about to enter December!

SATURDAY

SUNDAY
CLOSED

MONDAY 21ST DECEMBER - TUESDAY 6TH JANUARY
CLOSED
This may seem like a long time to be closed, and we do apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause, but with Christmas falling the way it does and the restrictions in place, we didn't feel that it would be viable for us to open over the Christmas period.

If anyone has a booking over these dates, we will be in touch directly to try to book you in for the new year (or, tables permitting, before the 19th December!).  Should you want to amend the booking yourself, you can do this by clicking on the 'edit booking' button on your confirmation email.

Take Aways

Thank you to everyone who has ordered a takeaway over the last 4 weeks, we hope that you have enjoyed having a little bit of Copper & Ink in your own home.  We will continue to offer takeaways when we are back open to diners, however, we will not be able to offer deliveries and we may not be able to offer quite as many takeaway options as we have done as we will obviously be cooking for the diners seated in the restaurant.

Just before we sign off, we just want to ask everyone to be respectful of the rules when coming back into the restaurant.   We have done everything we can to keep you and our staff safe and to continue to provide a wonderful, comfortable dining experience, so your cooperation is gratefully received.

Picture
Finally, we want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  We know it's not going to be what we are all used to, but we hope that you have a celebration as warm and as filled with joy as it can be.

See you all soon!

An Update from The Owners

19/3/2020

We wanted to thank everyone for all their heartfelt messages this week, it's been a real boon.

We have also appreciated all the ideas that have been pouring in from our guests and followers as to how we can continue to operate during this time.

One suggestion which has come up quite often is vouchers.  Now, whilst we love the idea of gift vouchers (who doesn't!), we don't know how long this crisis will continue and if, therefore, we will ever be able to open our doors again.  We can't, in good conscience, take money from our regular guests and loyal followers without knowing 100% that you are going to be able to cash that back in.  To that end, we have decided that vouchers will NOT be a viable option for us at this time.

If, and when, we can reopen, we ask that you come in and support us and if you still want to buy a gift voucher, we will have those available to purchase as at that point we can guarantee those will be redeemable.

We are in the process of coming up with something food related which we will update you on when we can, so please do bear with us.

In the meantime, if you do follow us on social media, you will have seen our posts with regard to supporting other independent businesses, so if you can help them too, we would really appreciate it.

Please stay safe and take care of each other.

A Note from the Owners

17/3/2020

Firstly, we want to thank all of you for your support during this time and for the continued support in general.

As you may have seen this afternoon, the Prime Minister has advised the public to avoid non-essential travel and visits to bars, clubs and restaurants.

Given this drastic change to advice, we have take the decision to be socially responsible and to close the restaurant with immediate effect.

We are hoping this is a very temporary measure and it's not a decision we have taken lightly, but we do hope you all understand our reasoning.

We will keep in touch both through our social media channels and our newsletter and if you have any specific questions you can reach us on email (info@copperandink.com).

We hope to see you all very soon.

Speaking of our fantastic Head Chef, Rob Parks, he has recently been speaking out about mental health in the restaurant industry.  It's a subject very close to our hearts, and something which has been very prominent in the media recently.

Rob has been a champion for Vent - an amazing mental health charity - for a long time and was invited onto their 'Just Checking In' podcast to discuss this topic further.  Click here to have a listen, and by all means, share it with anyone you think might need some help.

A quick apology to anyone who experienced difficulties with our website earlier this week, we had a few technical glitches which have now been remedied.  Thank you to everyone who got in touch to let us now they were having issues, it meant we could get the problem sorted for more quickly.

Our February menu has been going down a storm, with many of our guests telling us that our wild rabbit dish is "the best rabbit they've ever eaten!" Praise, indeed!

If you haven't been in this moth to try the current menu, you don't have long!  Our new menu kicks in on Tuesday 2nd March.

Head over to our bookings page to book your table.

Hope everyone has had a wonderful February and we look forward to seeing you in March!
